Extremely sad news – Ellen Irwin a research scholar, working with Victoria University, WCC and Zealandia has been monitoring the movements of seven kakariki around the Wellington area with transmitters she had attached to them. Ellen had tracked a signal from one of the transmitters to a property in Karori only to find that the kakariki had been hunted down by a cat. Even more disheartening (if it could get any more depressing) is that the cat did not kill it for food – just for sport
